This was my first car that I received for my 20th Birthday, but it wasn't always like this though. It used to be babyshit brown (honey brown ed.) so all my mates used to call it 'Poobug'. It has only come back into my care after a 4 year absence when I sold it to my neighbour with the condition that if he was to ever sell it I was to have first option. So recently I received a phone call from the owner saying that after 25 years he was quitting the bank & buying a lawn mowing business & 'Poobug had to go. I immediately felt like I was a contestant on 'The Price is right" & made him an offer. So 'Poobug' was mine again. It was exactly how I had sold it to him. It had never even been off the Central Coast in all that time, as it was used only as transport to & from the station. It isn't exactly in the condition in which I had sold it to put it nicely, I've had 2 guards reprayed but eventually I think that the whole car will be done again. The interior is still immaculate & the little 1640cc (the first motor that I ever built) still purr's perfectly & never been touched since I sold it. So it was 3 weeks before the VW Nationals & I decided to go for it & try & get it there. But there was a slight obstacle. I had to swap over everything from my white 72 Superbug. So the race was on everything had to be swapped over, wheels, brakes, gearbox, suspension, interior gauges etc. I was also building a brand new stroker motor at the same time. I would have got it to the drags on Saturday at Oran Park but my wife gave birth to Dominic on Good Friday 4 weeks ahead of schedule.

So it was a good weekend after all..

The car Is now almost finished & it's first outing onto the track will be the 9th of July at Eastern Creek. Can't wait to wind it up down that long straight, I'll also have an Aero Wing to keep it on the ground as well by then.

Can't Wait.

JAK RIZZO

joe-1.jpg (28954 bytes) The is my dad shortly after arriving in Australia. He's fixing the fenders after colliding with a big red kangaroo whilst out in the country pig shooting.
joe-2.jpg (26150 bytes) My dad again with his brand new 69 model bug. He got those 2 piece riveted wheels off his mates Valiant just to make the little bug different to everyone elses. Pretty cool back then.
joebaby-1.jpg (22868 bytes) This photo is of me in my first VW. As you can tell by the colour of the car I was meant to be a girl. Fooled Mum & Dad.
